Helsinki Region Chamber of Commerce taking part in International House Helsinki

International House Helsinki (IHH) offers most of the services that immigrants need after moving to Finland under one roof. In addition, IHH offers counselling and advisory services for employers in questions related to international workforce. The IHH service pilot opens on December 4th, 2017.

- Well functioning immigration and settlement services for the labour force are important factors in supporting the success of labour markets in the Helsinki region. IHH is an excellent example on how to clarify and bring the services closer to the customers, Helsinki Regions Chamber of Commerce’s Project Director Markku Lahtinen states.

As a part of IHH services, Helsinki Region Chamber of Commerce offers counselling and advisory services for employers. The employer services assist employers in questions related to international workforce, in finding the right authorities and in identifying the service needs. Employer services are available in Finnish and in English by phone, email and web. Employer services cover the Uusimaa region.

- Majority of the contacts from employers are related to residence permit processes and employer’s obligations. Often employers might be in that understanding that an international employee has the right to work in Finland when he has a social security number and a tax card. In those situations, it is worth to ask advice because it is employer’s obligation to make sure that the employee has the right to work in Finland, clarifies Helsinki Region Chamber of Commerce’s specialist Anniina Mandelin.

Immigration services under one roof

International House Helsinki is the first service in Finland to offer most of the information and public authority services for newly arrived international residents under the same roof. In the future, the customer needs to make only one visit to, for example, get the population register entries, a tax deduction card or a tax number, an ID or a Kela card or to receive guidance on how to register as a job-seeker.

The service pilot project is coordinated by the City of Helsinki and it includes services by City’s immigrant information service, the Local Register Office of Uusimaa, the Tax Administration and Kela’s In To Finland service, the Uusimaa Employment and Economic Development Office, the Finnish Centre for Pensions and the Helsinki Region Chamber of Commerce. Later, IHH will include services from the Finnish Immigration Service, the police and the SAK’s employee rights advisory service for immigrants.

International House Helsinki is located at the Local Register Office of Uusimaa on Albertinkatu in Helsinki.

The development of the International House Helsinki service is part of the regional At Work in Finland project, whose partners also include the Cities of Espoo and Vantaa, the Uusimaa Employment and Economic Development Office, SAK and Moniheli ry. The project is co-funded by the European Social Fund and the Helsinki-Uusimaa Regional Council.
